Cold sweats from strattera go away? I just started taking strattera 25mg. once a day. I find the cold sweating particularly troublesome. Does this side effect eventually go away? It's much easier asking this here then tracking down my doctor.

Todd E. Tornow replied: "Yes they should go away. I'd still ask my doctor and pharmacist anyway."

Weird CHILLS from Strattera: part of "serious" side effects? I took my first dose of Strattera (atomoxetine) this morning. Around mid-day, and continuing thru the day, I've been getting chills. Not bad. Just every now & then, I'll get a chill, seemingly out of the blue. The info sheet that came with my pre ion lists various common & less common side effects. Then it lists SERIOUS side effects (i.e. tell your doctor right away), and one of those said: "flu-like symptoms: fever, chills, severe fatigue." I don't have a fever (I checked); I don't feel fatigued; & I don't feel ill. I just have intermittant mild chills. I did some Google searching and discovered many folks had chills when they first started Strattera, but they eventually went away, and were okay. So, I'm hoping chills ALONE are not anything bad, because it's after 10 p.m., so I certainly can't "tell my doctor right away". I'm hoping only the combo of "flu-like symtoms" is considered part of the serious side effects. Any input? Thanks! :)

sable rose replied: "If your fine right now you can probably wait till tomorow , if it doesn't get worse, to call your doctor. it's always safe to check these things with them if your not totally sure. for the record while i was on it the only side effect i got was freaky realistic dreams no chills so i hope everything is ok."

Do side effects from Concerta stop once the body becomes adjusted? I just started my 9 year old son on 18mg yesterday. I've noticed his appetite has disappeared. He is already light, so this worries me. Is this an ongoing side effect, or will it go away once his body gets used to it? Also, is there any medication that DOESN't Supress appetite? We tried Strattera before, but it was a disaster. I would rather not have my son on any meds, but his ADHD is very severe. Thanks.

Andy replied: "That side effect may or may not go away as the body adjusts. If it persists I would let the doctor know as these medications can cause appetite suppression."

Which amphetamine for ADHD has the least side effects? I take Concerta 36 mg (time-released Ritalin/methylphenidate) and it makes my heart beat a little faster than normal and takes away some of my appetite. Are there better ADHD stimulant medications out there with less side effects, like Adderall for instance? And no Strattera for me--I can't stand feeling sleepy all day.

lazyrieger replied: "I think dextroamphetamine has les side affects. adderall can be a good one to but i feel docters give to big of doses of it."

DIYer replied: "I didn't even think they used amphetamine for that at all anymore. I guess they still do There have been many things that they have discovered over the years, that they had hoped would help out with this... however, probably not any that your physician is actually going to endorse besides the things you have already mentioned. I have had several friends from when I was younger that had the exact same complaints you have about being treated with stimulants of that kind, who, in the long run, seemed to be able to simply discontinue that type of treatment. So you are probably going to have to just try and make the best of it for the time being Ask your physician if you can try one of the new ones, like the adderol (sp?) that you mentioned. Ultimately, he needs to be the one that approves your method of treatment of this, and I can't see it possibly being much worse than what you're already going through"

beachbum85 replied: "i think adderall in general has even more stimulant-type side effects (fast heartbeat, loss of appetite, insomnia, etc) than concerta. i used to take concerta and now i take adderall and for me, adderall definetely has more of the stimulant-type side effects and i think that is the way it is for most people. however, everybody responds differently to different medicines, so there is no way for you to know for sure except to try it"

Dorothy H replied: "Ok i'm looking right at the book,& still cant figure it out, if you're taking 36mg. it says that is Concerta, methyphenedate hci, &. it comes in 18,27,36,&54mg it is extended released. ok, Ritalin, comes in 20.30&40mg, extended release,1/2 is released then,& the rest is delayed released. I've found Adderall, it says not recommended for adults, & some of the other ones do too. but i have found sometimes that dr's overdo it sometimes. for instance, when i hav eto take anibiodics or sinus meds. i break them in two .same w/benadryl, i buy the childrens dose. I wouldnt change to the Ritalin, but AdderallXR sounds like a good alternative,,There's also:FocalinHCI,in 2.5 & 5,10 mg tabs. MetadateCD,HCI, it comes in 10,20 &30mg.ext,release tabs.,Provigil,,it's in a lesser class, & comes in 100,& 200mg.tabs,,& then the Strattera, which you said not for you..These drugs do have some of the same side effects:Headache, infection, nervousness, anxiety, depression, insomnia,,some w/anorexia,hypertension,weight loss, nausea, arrhythmias,Tourete's Syndrome, toxic psychosis, seizures, blood dyscrasias(whatever that is) Hon, I don't really know, I'd see about cutting back, ask the dr. if you can half them, are you takingit in the morning? or when you get up? theAdderallXR, is what i'd ask about. it's a smaller dose, therefore fewer of the chance of such side effects, i think, this isnt my specialty, but i study medicine cause i've hd so many unpleasant side effects & dr's will have my chart right there & they'll still give me stuff they know i cannot take.& i've lost dr's before when i said, i cant take that,i know what it is" a dr. gave me a MPR(monthly prescribing preference) yrs ago & ever since then i've tried to get one from some dr. or another,to keep up w/what they are giving me.They've overdone me a lot, they gave me such huge doses of Keeflex, that i went into panic mode, it did some nerve damage, i went to the ear dr. cause i thot, man, my ears must be really bad to shake like this, but the ears were ok, but he said it was something elsse going on & sent me right over to a GREAT psych.dr..cant spell it) & he put me immediatly on klonapin,,,& as time went by we had to change some other things, what , if i may ask, conditions did the dr, base his/her diagnosis by? I'm bi-polar,& it sounds well reminds me of me.some of the same side effects. i dont know,,you dont have to tell me,but i hope you get to feeling better,i know 1st hand! but i hope this infor has helped a little, good luck Ben, it's great to hear from you! God Bless."

I have been taking Adderall and I hate the side effects. I don't like mainly the way it makes me feel. Then? there's the way it makes me feel when it starts to wear off. Again not good. My doctor put me on Strattera and I continued to take Adderall (lower dose). B.T.W. I asked to try it that way. It seems as though the side effects are gone and it's really helping with my concentration. Is it possible when the two are combined that that took away the side effects? I tried lower dosage and regular dosage and BAM...no more bad effects. How can that be?

Amelia replied: "I have been taking medicine for ADHD forever and I started taking adderall xr about 9 months ago. I love how much it helps but I have to take a higher dose and it kills my sleeping. It makes me soooo tired all day long then wears off right when it's time for bed. I tried taking a smaller dose but it didn't help. I don't know why you feel better now but it's likely you built up a tolerence for the medication (this is also why we always change meds lol) good luck and enjoy your weekend!"

$200.000 replied: "From a quick research it seems you could be taking it for ADdisorder. It is often the case that this is an allergic reaction to foods you eat in normnal diet. As I am not yet qualified to diagnose nor prescribe I would stronly suggrest you try allergies and mental disoders on the net there is not much info but perhaps enough to help. Also you could have a harmful reaction to the drug. You are the best doctor for yourseld ultimately but its research, research and more research"
