Is Seroquel putting me at risk of diabetes? Hi I began taking this medication about a month ago. I began taking half a tablet of 200mg before bedtime and I have now moved up to taking one whole 200mg tablet. How do I know if I am at risk of getting diabetes? I am 21 yrs. old and I go to the gym three to four times a week. Is there a symptom I would feel if I am getting diabetes? Please, anyone with experience on this medication or knowledge of the medication or diabetes itself.

Im here 4 U :) replied: "Yes as My husband takes it and so does my husband he had for 5 years! and no diabetes. and I used to take it we are all over weight and no problems. they take blood to test you. o and my son takes it to since he was 3 years old!!!! hes almost 10 now!"

proud mom of 2 replied: "I've been on Seroquel for 2 yrs w/ no ill effects. My best friend was on it for 4 years & now has diabetes. She feels that the Seroquel is what caused it. Make sure that your doc is monitoring your blood sugar. You should have your blood checked once every six mos."

jeziet replied: "I don't know about the risks for diabetes, but I would quit taking it immediately and switch to something else. By the way did your doctor tell you that Seroquel is Synthetic Heroin...minus the opi's. It is also addictive. I took that stuff for a year. When I tried to stop taking it it took me 7 months to be able to sleep properly."

Seroquel induced diabetes? Is that true? Does Seroquel really linked to an onset of diabetes? I ask because I was on Seroquel and developed diabetes about 4 months after taking it daily. I had no risk factors for diabetes, but I now have type 2. Thankyou I just filled out the form for that lawyer.

Dio replied: "Yes it is true, join the class action lawsuit below: Glad to hear you filed your claim, I hope you get a settlement!"

Trixie Delight replied: "Sounds like you got yourself a lawsuit Seroquel is from Hell! (And that's where I'll be seeing the makers of it.)"

Tin S replied: "Seroquel and Diabetes On August 22, 2003, The Wall Street Journal published an article detailing an abstract from a study on atypical antipsychotic medications, including Seroquel, that indicated that people taking these drugs were more likely to develop diabetes than patients taking older medications. The study was conducted on U.S. military veterans and demonstrated that Seroquel and other members of a new class of antipsychotic drugs were linked to a higher risk of diabetes, but the risk of diabetes was greatest with Seroquel Its the pits. Terrible drug.. SUE SUE SUE"

suzanne_una replied: "I work at a mental health care clinic and it has been shown that almost all psychotropic meds increase the risk for metabolic disease. Seroquel's insert discusses there is a risk for metabolic disease. About 60% of our clients have type II due to their weight, lack of exercise, and medication. You say you did not have any risk factors prior to taking Seroquel? Were you were overweight at all, not exercising regularly, or not eating a healthy diet? If you can say yes to any of these then that is what put you at risk, the Seroquel just helped it out and unfortunately tipped the scales."
